Celtic urged to sign Brighton & Hove Albion player
Celtic will need to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window. One of the strongest areas of the current team is their midfield department. They have the likes of Callum McGregor, Matt O'Riley, Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo, Tomoki Iwata and more capable of playing in the middle of the park. Things could change soon though.
O'Riley is believed to be drawing interest from top clubs like Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan, if rumours are accurate. On the other hand, Bernardo is only on a season-long loan from Benfica and it remains to be seen whether Celtic would be open to making a significant transfer offer for a player not considered a starter when everybody is fit and available.
So, Celtic might need to sign a midfielder in the summer. And it looks like they should keep an eye on a player from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Marc Leonard spent this season, and the previous one, on loan in the English League One with Northampton Town. That seems to have been enough to convince the club's manager of his quality and potential to play at a high level.
Celtic urged to sign Brighton & Hove Albion player
Both Celtic and the Rangers have been told to keep an eye on Leonard. As reported by the Daily Record, Northampton Town manager Jon Brady said:
"I feel for the here and now and for the longer term I would say Marc Leonard is one that both Rangers and Celtic should be looking at. I know both teams have a lot of talent in the midfield but Marc is an outstanding young Scottish player. I believe he can go all the way to the top and if Rangers or Celtic were to come in for him then I feel he has the talent to flourish for either side."
Leonard had a good season with Northampton Town, who managed a mid-table finish in League One, having come up from League Two. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the Scottish midfielder scored 5 goals and provided 6 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Interestingly, the Rangers have done well signing a player on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, with Abdallah Sima probably being their best performer this season. Should Celtic do the same this summer?
