Celtic strengthened their centre-back ranks this summer by bringing in Auston Trusty from Sheffield United for a transfer fee believed to be in the range of £6 million. He is expected to compete with Liam Scales for a first-team spot but considering Cameron Carter-Vickers' shaky injury record over the past two seasons, there could be more opportunities available as well.
Of course, the centre-back ranks at Celtic are not completely settled. The futures of Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki are still up in the air.
Welsh was linked with a move away from the club this summer but has stayed put. It remains to be seen how much playing time he does end up getting over the course of the campaign.
On the other hand, Nawrocki was widely expected to leave this summer but that did not materialise. At this point in time, it is hard to see him start for Celtic anytime soon, unless they end up having to deal with multiple injury problems in defence at the same time.
Celtic urged to consider signing Wales international
67 Hail Hail have suggested that if Nawrocki or any of his positional counterparts do decide to move elsewhere in the months to come, Swansea City’s Ben Cabango could be someone the Hoops would be drawn to, He is suited to Brendan Rodgers' possession-oriented style of play and has international experience under his belt as well.
Cabango is 24 years of age. But he is already closing in on 200 appearances for Swansea City and has made quite a few appearances for the Wales national team as well.
Cabango's current contract with Swansea City is believed to be running out next summer though. As a result, he could be available for a bargain transfer fee in January or perhaps the club could agree a pre-contract with him for next summer.
