Celtic need to strengthen in quite a few positions this summer. One of them has to be centre-back. Carl Starfelt has never really been replaced by the club. They did make investment in that area by signing Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki but neither of them has impressed since joining the Hoops.
Liam Scales has stepped up and become a regular starter for Celtic this season. There are still a number of areas where he is not great and his form has dropped lately too. But the lack of genuine starting options means that he has retained his place in Brendan Rodgers' side.
The Hoops could do with some genuine competition for that position. And the English Championship could be a good place to find a player capable of providing that.
As suggested by 67 Hail Hail, it might be worth exploring a deal for Swansea City's Nathan Wood. He is young, progressive on the ball and has room to develop further.
Celtic urged to sign Arsenal and Tottenham-linked defender
Wood is someone who is a nailed-on starter for Swansea City. And he is drawing the interest of some of the biggest teams in world football with his displays for the Championship side.
As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Wood's performances closely. Swansea City are looking to try and extend his contract to prevent a summer move from happening.
That is the kind of youngster that Celtic should be keeping their eyes on. Of course, it might be a tough job winning a transfer race up against teams like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but the Hoops can offer the 21-year-old centre-back a chance to be playing first-team football from the get go, which either of the London giants might not be able to do at this point.
