Celtic fans are hoping that the club make a fantastic addition between the posts this summer. Joe Hart, who has spent three seasons as the Hoops' number one, has decided to retire at the end of this campaign. Replacing him will not be an easy task, whether that be as a player on the pitch or as a leader in the dressing room.

It has been a long time since Celtic have had a long-term goalkeeper. Even Hart was never going to be that, having arrived at the club in the twilight of his career and his three-year run has probably been longer than most had anticipated.

Yet, with Hart retiring, Celtic have been linked with another veteran goalkeeper lately. Asmir Begovic of QPR is rumoured to be on their radar as a possible replacement.

But as reported by Football Insider, Celtic are planning to sign a long-term number-one goalkeeper in the summer. They want someone who is committed to remaining at Parkhead for multiple years. At 36 years of age, Begovic does not fit that criteria. The club are unlikely to make a move for him.

Begovic is a veteran goalkeeper and someone who has been at top clubs like Chelsea and AC Milan. That being said, he is nowhere near his peak and would be a short-term fix at best if Celtic were to sign him.

Signing Begovic as the next number one would not be a step in the forward direction for Celtic. If they were to bring him in as a cover option, who would add some much-needed experience to the squad, then that is a different discussion altogether.

It remains to be seen who Celtic end up signing this summer to replace Hart. They have been linked with plenty of goalkeepers already.
