Celtic told to sign midfielder as duo are not good enough
Celtic need to make additions in the upcoming January transfer window. It remains to be seen what kind of moves they end up making. their signings in the summer have proven to be very disappointing but if the recent rumours are anything to go by, it does not look like the club are moving away from their transfer policy just yet.
There are a number of positions where they need to strengthen. A new striker, left-back and goalkeeper was probably near the top of every fans' Christmas list this year.
Yet, the club have been told they need to make an addition in midfield as well. Reo Hatate has struggled with fitness issues for the majority of the campaign and has not looked at his best in Brendan Rodgers' system either.
The likes of David Turnbull, Paulo Bernardo and Tomoki Iwata have all gotten chances in the absence of Hatate. But none of them have done enough to be considered a regular starter moving forward.
Celtic told to sign midfielder as duo are not good enough
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Pat Bonner said while talking on BBC Sportsound (26/12/23 at 2:35 pm):
"I think they probably need another midfielder."
Bonner does not believe that Bernardo fits in and that Turnbull has done enough, as he continued:
"Bernardo doesn’t fit it, for me. I don’t think David Turnbull has done enough to be in the team every week. He has his chances but now isn’t getting enough games."
The problem is, none of these players appear to bring the complete skillset in midfield that Hatate. That being said, the Japanese midfielder has had his struggles adjusting to Rodgers' football as well but had been showing signs of improvement before his injury.
It is believed that Hatate is close to fitness. There have even been suggestions that he could be available for the Glasgow Derby against the Rangers at the weekend. If that does turn out to be the case, it would be a boost for Celtic although it is unclear how he will be able to play.
