Celtic have a lot of problems right now. Things have just not going for them this season and as a result, they find themselves trailing the Rangers in the Premiership title race with just nine games left to go. The important thing for the Hoops moving forward is to finish the campaign strong, win some silverware and then strengthen in the summer transfer window.

This squad is not strong enough and reinforcements need to be brought in. But while trying to achieve that, Celtic cannot overlook the highly-rated youngsters already at the club.

Celtic do not have the greatest record in recent times when it comes to promoting their academy standouts to the senior team. The last player to make that jump and become a superstar at the first-team level was Kieran Tierney. The only one who is a regular starter in the current team is club captain Callum McGregor.

Two of the best youngsters Celtic have right now are Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata. And it looks like the club have held talks with both. As reported by Football Scotland, when asked how impressed he's been with the former, Rodgers said:

"I've been very impressed. I think it's one of my key tasks here is to try and provide a pathway for our young talents and players to come through into the first-team, so his attitude, commitment, qualities he has, I think he's got a very bright future.

"I've been really pleased for him. Him and Rocco Vata have both been training about for a period of time and have both shown up really well. Daniel's had the opportunity more than Rocco has but both players have shown quality and more importantly, for me, as young players they're showing that willingness to learn and develop and improve.

"Both players I think have been in talks with the club, but I don't really have any update on that."

Kelly has been getting some decent playing time recently, albeit as a substitute off the bench. He has appeared in each of Celtic's last three games, as his development seems to be moving quicker than expected.

The same cannot be said about Vata. Despite being a standout for the B Team, chances have been rare for him in the senior team.

Rumours have suggested that Kelly is close to signing an extension with Celtic. On the other hand, Vata has been linked with clubs all around Europe as an exit looks pretty inevitable for him unless he starts getting a lot more opportunities.
