Celtic need to sign a striker in January. Oh Hyeon-gyu is away with the South Korean national team for the AFC Asian Cup. Kyogo has not been called up by Japan, which has decreased some of the urgency for the Hoops. That being said, it would be a mistake if they do not add to their centre-forward ranks.

Most Celtic fans would want the club to sign a proven goalscorer. In that regard, Bojan Miovski of Aberdeen or Lawrence Shankland of Hearts could be a good signing.

They are being linked with 'project' players as well though. As reported by the Daily Mail (via 67 Hail Hail), Celtic are showing interest in Leeds United's Joe Gelhardt.

Gelhardt is 21 years of age and currently at Leeds United. He came through the ranks at Wigan Athletic and has spent time on loan at Sunderland as well. His goalscoring record will not fill Celtic fans with confidence though.

Gelhardt has made almost 50 appearances for Leeds United till now and managed to score only 3 goals. He was not prolific at Sunderland or Wigan Athletic either.

That being said, it is worth pointing out that Gelhardt has rarely started games for Leeds United. And he is still just 21 years of age, meaning he has a lot of room for improvement.

Is he someone who would come in and challenge Kyogo for the starting spot at Celtic? Most probably not. But he is someone who could develop into that role, especially at a club where he is expected to receive a lot more chances to score goals.

Let's see what the future holds for Gelhardt. It would not be a major surprise if Celtic do end up making a move for him in the future.
