Celtic need to sign a midfielder this summer to take Matt O'Riley's place in the squad, after he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in a Scottish record. A number of outlets have suggested that Arne Engels of FC Augsburg is the club's top transfer target to fill that gap. But what if they fail to get a deal done for the Belgian?
In that scenario, Celtic would have to move quickly. There is not a lot of time left in the summer transfer window as it is.
If Celtic do end up finding themselves in a tough situation, why not call a club in need of moving on players before the transfer window closes? Of course, we are talking about Chelsea.
Chelsea have continued to sign players left, right and centre. A lot of them are youngsters and need to play regular football in order to develop at the senior level. Unfortunately, they are not expected to get that at the London club. So, expect quite a few to depart Stamford Bridge on loan over the next few days.
Celtic should sign Chelsea player if move for Arne Engels fails
Cesare Casadei is someone who is in need of a loan move right now. And Celtic could be the perfect destination for him.
Casadei was a fantastic scoring midfielder at the youth level. He has not found his scoring boots in the senior game so far. It should come with time and experience. He is 21 years of age and needs a breakout campaign.
Casadei has a bit of experience under his belt as well. He has spent time out on loan at Leicester City and Reading. He also has made about a dozen appearances for Chelsea.
So, all things considered, Casadei would not be the ideal replacement for O'Riley. But if the situation gets tight, he might be an option worth considering, if available.
