Celtic are set to say goodbye to arguably their best player, as Matt O'Riley is set to join Brighton & Hove Albion for a £30 million transfer package, the biggest in Scottish football history. On the other hand, it looks like the Hoops are interested in bringing back someone whose record the Danish midfielder is about to break. Of course, we are talking about Jota.
Al-Ittihad shelled out a transfer fee in the region of £25 million to sign Jota from Celtic last summer. It would be to safe to say that things have not worked out for the Portuguese winger as he has barely featured since then and it has been a nightmare spell for him so far.
Hopefully, Jota will be able to find himself a new club in the near future. And it looks like a return to Celtic is not out of question although he has been heavily linked with Rennes recently.
As reported by HITC, Celtic are interested in bringing back Jota. They have enquired about a loan deal. Al-Ittihad would prefer a permanent transfer.
Celtic reportedly make enquiry about Jota return
Let's see how things play out and if Celtic are able to engineer a move back to Parkhead for the Portuguese winger. Of course, a lot will depend on what Jota wants in his next move as well.
Jota cannot afford to take another misstep after how things have turned out for him at Al-Ittihad. He knows exactly what to expect from Celtic and Scottish football. The same cannot be said about life at Rennes.
Of course, if available at a decent transfer fee, a permanent move could make sense for Celtic as well. Although, with Nicolas Kuhn finding top form, one has to wonder whether the club even need a winger right now.
