It looks like Celtic have already started to take steps towards making signings in the summer transfer window, even though there is a part of the 2023/24 campaign still left to be played and two trophies still up for grabs. It is always preferable to prepare early though and the club must be commended for doing that.

A lot of things can change between now and the end of the season. New heroes might emerge for Celtic as they look to retain the Premiership and the Scottish Cup. One thing that is for certain though is the fact that they will need to sign a goalkeeper next summer.

Joe Hart will be calling it a day come the end of the season. The Englishman has been Celtic's first-choice goalkeeper since his £1 million move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021.

Celtic will need a top-quality and experienced goalkeeper to fill Hart's void in the team. And it looks like they are eyeing someone who fits that profile.

As reported by Taka Gazete, Celtic have requested to initiate official transfer negotiations for Ugurcan Cakir. The offer that the Hoops will make to Trabzonspor if they convince the player is around £7.5 million.

That would be a significant offer for Celtic. In fact, it would only be behind the £9 million transfer fee they shelled out to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG.

Celtic do not often go for players like Cakir. He is in his prime at 28 years of age, the captain of Trabzonspor and a full international for Turkey. This has to be viewed as a positive sign. For years, the fans have called for more experience and proven quality to be brought in and it looks like the Hoops are finally doing that.
