The January transfer window is going to be very important for Celtic this time around. Brendan Rodgers has openly admitted the need to bring in quality on more than one occasion already. The Hoops might be out of the Champions League and Scottish League, but there are two trophies still to play for, and most importantly the Premiership.

Celtic might be leading the Premiership title race right now but there is still a long way to go. It would also be a mistake to think that they are in a comfortable position.

One thing we have learned since the start of this season is that this is an inconsistent Celtic team which often struggles to put games to bed and are not brilliant at taking their chances either. A few bad results and the Rangers will be right back in the mix.

Ideally, Celtic would add some quality players to their squad in January. Sydney van Hooijdonk of Bologna is someone who has been linked with the Hoops in recent weeks. But it looks like other teams have an eye on him as well.

As reported by Football Scotland, Van Hooijdonk's name was pitched to scouts inside Parkhead. But Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is a fan of the player too.

Van Hooijdonk might have struggled to get into the Bologna team but he has proven himself in the Eredivisie in the past. He spent the previous season on loan at Heerenveen and scored 19 goals in all competitions. He knows his way to the back of the net.

Someone like Van Hooijdonk could be an excellent addition to this Celtic squad. There is a pre-existing connection as well, as his father played for the club. But it is easy to see why a move to Feyenoord and a return to the Netherlands might be attractive.
