Celtic were expected to strengthen this January after a shaky first half of the season. They have barely done that, only bringing in Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna in a £3 million transfer. With merely days remaining in the window, any addition between now and the end of the month would be viewed as a bonus on the part of the supporters.

On the other hand, there are some players who have barely featured lately and could do with a move away from Parkhead. Benjamin Siegrist is one name which appears to fall under that category.

Siegrist was excellent during his time at Dundee United and when he was signed as a free agent by Celtic in the summer of 2022, it was seen as a major coup. Many even believed that the club had found the replacement for Joe Hart in goal.

That has not happened. Hart has remained the number one while Siegrist has only made a handful of appearances for Celtic and seems to be even behind Scott Bain in the pecking order.

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said when talking about Siegrist:

"When you play at a big club like Celtic, you only get one chance to come in, maybe two.

“He’s not done it when he needs to and he needs a better mindset."

McAvennie further added about the Swiss goalkeeper:

"There’s a few boys that have to leave now and Siegrist is one of them."

It would be a good idea for Siegrist to leave Celtic at this point, whether on loan or on a permanent basis, and try to bring his career back on track elsewhere. He has barely featured for the Hoops over the past season-and-a-half and the situation is not expected to change.

Hart's time at Celtic Park might very well come to an end next summer. But one would expect Siegrist to become the number one at any point moving forward. So, it would make sense for both parties to part ways and look for a different solution.
