There are quite a few Celtic players whose long-term futures might lie away from Parkhead, especially due to their contract situations. The January transfer window is less than a month away. The Hoops are expected to make a few additions to their squad but at the same time, there are others who might head for the exit door.

The situation of David Turnbull is very interesting. The Scottish midfielder has been getting some decent playing time this season and seems to be a part of Brendan Rodgers' plans for sure. He brings something different to the table for the Hoops, an undeniable ability to score from midfield, as he already has seven goals to his name in this campaign.

Turnbull's current contract with Celtic runs out next summer though and he is yet to agree an extension although the club are believed to be open to handing him one. If there is no breakthrough soon, could we see the midfielder leave in January? Otherwise, the Hoops run the risk of seeing him depart as a free agent some months later.

Turnbull has been linked with a top European team like AC Milan recently. But John Hartson appears to believe he could end up at a top Championship team like Leeds United.

As reported by HITC, Hartson said on Go Radio:

"I have always said it, he is a goalscoring midfield player. He adds that 10-14 goals every year for you from midfield.

“I can see him going to a top Championship team, like a Leeds United."

Turnbull could be a good fit for a team like Leeds United, at least at the Championship level. The Scottish midfielder is exceptional when it comes to finding the back of the net and that could help the Yorkshire-based team when up against resolute low-block defences.

Leeds United are challenging for promotion to the Premier League at the moment. They currently sit at third in the Championship table after 19 games, behind Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
