Celtic have finally found some form over the last few weeks and fortunately enough, the Rangers have dropped plenty of points recently, allowing the Hoops to get back in the driver's seat of the 2023/24 Premiership title race. The players have been criticised throughout the campaign but they also deserve some credit for their recent performances.

It is not just players at Celtic who are performing well lately. Some are doing the same while away on loan as well.

The name atop that list has to be that of Mikey Johnston. The Celtic winger left on loan in the winter in order to join West Bromwich Albion, after he had struggled for regular playing time in the first half of the campaign.

It would be safe to say that Johnston has exceeded the expectations of even his most optimistic fans. He has been brilliant for West Bromwich Albion so far, having already scored 7 goals for them, and even won the Championship Player of the Month award for March.

It looks like Johnston had the chance to join Hearts in the past. But he did not want to play for another Scottish club, if he was to leave Celtic.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lee McCulloch explained to PLZ the reasons behind the move not happening, as he said:

"We tried to get Mikey Johnston at Hearts and he didn't want to leave Celtic. And if he did leave Celtic he didn't want to go to another Scottish team."

It is safe to say that things have worked out quite well for Johnston ultimately, even though there were plenty of hurdles along the way. Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Will he end up getting one last chance to Celtic? Or will the club decide to part ways with him, now that his transfer value has been boosted? A lot of questions will be answered this summer.
