While the majority of the rumours surrounding Celtic have been about potential incomings, there are quite a few players who could head in the opposite direction as well. For some, it is about heading to a top five European league after already tasting success in Glasgow. For others, it might just be a matter of getting more playing time, having failed to feature regularly for the Hoops.

Gustaf Lagerbielke is someone who belongs in the second category. The Swedish defender was signed last summer for a transfer fee believed to be around £3 million.

Lagerbielke has had his moments in a Celtic jersey. Whether that be keeping a cleansheet in a Glasgow Derby win away at Ibrox or scoring the winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

But overall, Lagerbielke's time at Celtic Park has not been a success and it is unsurprising that he is being linked with a move away. He managed to appear just 10 times for the club in the entirety of the 2023/24 season.

Celtic player drops hint about potential summer exit

Lagerbielke has confirmed that there are clubs interested in signing him. As reported by The National, the defender told Fotbollskanalen:

"Yes, there are interested teams in Italy and also other leagues.

"Just like all other players, I want to play and make a difference. I am ready to do so if the opportunity arises. It is difficult to say anything before something is ready. I have a contract with Celtic, but it's no secret that I want to play."

Lagerbielke certainly has quality but he might not be the right fit for the style of football Brendan Rodgers wants his team to play. Thus, one has to question the recruitment more than the player or the manager in this scenario.

Lagerbielke has been linked with a move to Italy for a while now. In fact, an exit was believed to be close in the winter but it is believed that it did not end up materialising due to the number of injury problems at the club at that point in time. Let's see if the Swede finds himself a new home this summer.
