Celtic have made a superb start to the season. They have won all seven of their games so far, five in the Premiership, one in the League Cup and their Champions League opener. It is important to continue building on this momentum though. Not only are the starting players vital to that happening but those on the bench as well.

James Forrest is someone who has enjoyed a career revival under the management of Brendan Rodgers. He had spent the past several seasons sitting on the bench.

But towards the end of last season, he found himself back in the mix and delivered as well. Since then, he has been involved, whether that be as a starter or a substitute. And not only is he featuring, but contributing as well, as the 33-year-old has four assists to his name already in this campaign.

Many had written Forrest off but it looks like he still has a lot to offer to Celtic. And an extension does seem to be on the winger's mind. As reported by Football Scotland, the veteran said:

"I feel as if I’ve still got a part to play and I still love it. Celtic is such a massive club and I’ve been here my whole career. I’d love to stay on and that will maybe come into discussion at some point. I’m not sure when."

Forrest's current deal with the club runs out next summer. And Celtic should be open to the idea of handing him a short-term extension, if he continues to perform like this.

Not only is Forrest important as a player but as an experienced member of the dressing room as well. He is someone who has seen it all and done it all at Celtic, multiple times over.

Forrest came through the youth ranks at Celtic and has never played for any other team. He crossed 500 appearances for the club very recently. So, it would be fitting to see him retire at Parkhead, whenever that might be. Hopefully, talks over an extension will start soon.
