Celtic player admits it's time for him to be replaced
It will be interesting to see what changes the Celtic squad undergoes in the upcoming summer transfer window. Brendan Rodgers' are still in contention for a double. In fact, they are in the driver's seat in the league title race after a while, as the Rangers lost at the weekend against Ross County. But despite that, one cannot overlook how inconsistent the Hoops have been throughout the campaign. Improvements need to be made, whether they finish this season with one trophy, two or none.
One change that Celtic are certain to undergo in the summer is between the posts. That is because Joe Hart has already announced his decision to retire after the end of this campaign.
Hart has been Celtic's first-choice goalkeeper for the past three seasons. And exceeding all expectations, he has been one of the club's best performers in this campaign.
That has not caused Hart to change his mind regarding his upcoming retirement though. He believes that it is someone else's turn. As reported by The National, the Celtic goalkeeper said:
"People have asked me, and friends and family now it’s an important time in my life. But I literally have no opinion on how I feel. I feel the way I’ve always felt. I’ll just keep playing and pushing – and enjoying what I am doing.
“It will be a big miss. But it’s someone else’s turn. I want to leave the place in as good a place as I possibly can. I’ve been lucky to be part of this. I don’t take it for granted. But it’s someone else’s turn.
“I will soak it up – but I’ve always soaked up every moment. Even when I was say on the bench at Burnley and West Ham. Those are moments in your life. The most important moments are now – and I have a job to do.
“I have said since I came up here and talked about potentially winning things. I’d love to sit down and say face to face how I feel at the end because it’s happened. Until then, I don’t know."
Celtic player admits it's time for him to be replaced
Hart has had quite the Celtic career for sure. When he had arrived in the summer of 2021, not many had given him a chance to succeed.
Back then, it had looked like Hart's best days were behind him and he had already transitioned into a backup goalkeeper, having played that role a few clubs already. But he arrived at Celtic as the number one and has never let that spot slip from his grasp.
Hart deserves a ton of credit for how well he has done for Celtic. He has proven a lot of critics wrong and solidified his legacy as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. A phenomenal career and hopefully there are a couple more trophies still to lift.
