Celtic open talks with defender but deal not close
Celtic have struggled with their recruitment in recent times. That is not a secret to anyone. The club have been pretty active when it comes to signing players but only a few of those fresh faces have had a positive impact on the team. That is a key reason why the Rangers have managed to catch up with them in the league.
While Celtic have not identified talents well, one area where they have been brilliant is agreeing extensions with those already at the club. Almost every key figure from the Ange Postecoglou era has signed a new deal this season, even after the Australian's move to Tottenham Hotspur.
One player who was not an important part of Postecoglou's Celtic side is Liam Scales. In fact, he spent last season out on loan at Aberdeen.
Scales was expected to leave last summer as well, whether permanently or on a loan deal. But a series of injuries at centre-back early on in the season saw him staying on and he was able to make the most of the unexpected opportunity, establishing himself as a starter in Brendan Rodgers' plans, a role he has held since then.
Celtic open talks with defender but deal not close
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are in talks with Scales over a new contract. Negotiations are well underway but it is believed that a full agreement is not close at this point.
Scales is someone who has divided the opinion of Celtic fans. He was doing very well in the first few months of the season but his performance levels have dropped in recent times.
On one hand, he remains a starter for the club and handing him a new deal would be a good idea, with his current one running out in 2025. On the other hand, a lot of people believe that Celtic need to sign a defender who can take his place in the starting XI.
