Celtic's transfer policy has drawn a lot of criticism over the past several months and understandably so. The club have not shown enough ambition with their signings, instead sticking to bringing in highly-rated but unproven youngsters. Most of these moves have not worked out and that has allowed the Rangers to close down the gap between the two, as the title race is well and truly on.

One area where Celtic have excelled though is agreeing contract extensions with the players currently at the club. The Hoops have agreed new deals with the majority of their key names.

One player who has enjoyed an unexpected and meteoric rise this season is Liam Scales. The Republic of Ireland defender has gone from the bottom of the centre-back pecking order to being a regular starter in Brendan Rodgers' side. And it looks like Celtic are now looking to agree an extension with him as well, with his current one believed to run out in the summer of 2025.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have now opened discussions with Scales. They have come to the table and want to sort out the defender's long-term future.

It would be safe to say that Scales has earned an extension with his displays. Since coming into the starting XI, he has not lost his place.

Also, there does not seem to be anyone capable of taking his place in the team. We have seen Rodgers struggle to find a consistent starter at centre-back in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic are able to agree a contract extension with Scales or not. It does feel like it should not be an issue. While he has done well, it does not feel like top clubs are interested in the Republic of Ireland international already, to the point where he would be considering an exit in the immediate future.
