The upcoming summer transfer window is going to be an important one for Celtic. On one hand, they could still finish the season with two trophies, which has to be considered a success, even by their own high standards. But on the other hand, one has to recognise that the performances and the results simply have not been good enough lately and there is a need for strengthening.

Defensive midfield looks like one area where Celtic will eye reinforcements. It has been a puzzle that the club have not been able to solve for a long time.

Players like Ismaila Soro, Oliver Abildgaard and plenty of others have been brought in to play the role to little success. Tomoki Iwata has done a decent job in recent months but when the squad is at full-strength, he does not seem like a starter. Thus, the club do with more options there.

As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have been offered Charles Pickel as Brendan Rodgers searches for a new defensive midfielder. The club are believed to have put the feelers out to fill the position and the Cremonese player's name has been put to the recruitment team for consideration.

Pickel currently plays in the Italian Serie B with Cremonese. He does have a decent bit of experience under his belt though.

Through the course of his career, Pickel has played in Switzerland, France, Portugal and Italy. The 26-year-old was also a nailed on starter for the DR Congo national team as they reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Of course, good players can be found at any level. Matt O'Riley was playing in the English third division when he was signed by Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen if the Hoops make a move for Pickel or not.
