The 2023/24 season is over for Celtic and it was a successful one for the club, even though things looked shaky at numerous points. The end was great though, as the Hoops' experience of constantly winning silverware shown through. The finished the campaign strong and were able to secure a Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

Now, the aim will be to strengthen the squad further as Celtic look to continue winning domestically while also getting better at the European level. Thus, the hope is for a strong summer transfer window.

Celtic fans were waiting for fresh faces to arrive at Parkhead over the summer. At the same time, it might be equally important to retain those who did well in the 2023/24 season.

Paulo Bernardo is someone whose future at Celtic is in doubt. He spent the season on loan from Benfica and did a decent job. The Hoops are believed to have a buyout option set around £6 million in his deal.

As reported by A Bola (via The Celtic Star), the teams are in discussions over a deal for Bernardo. It is believed that the Hoops are keen on signing him but not willing to meet the £6 million figure.

In modern football, a £6 million transfer fee might not be considered significant. But it still is for clubs like Celtic. That is the kind of figure they shell out to make marquee signings.

It remains to be seen if the two teams can reach an agreement. Even though Bernardo has a ton of talent, he does not fall into the 'marquee signing' category yet. He did decently well while on loan at Celtic last season but when everybody is fit and available, the Portuguese youngster is not considered a starter for the Hoops.
