Celtic are in an interesting position with regards to their squad. There is a feeling that they have way too many players on their hands and it might be time to part ways with some, while bringing in some quality at the same time. That is not easy to achieve, especially in the middle of the season. Let's see if the Hoops are able to pull it off.

Celtic earned a lot of plaudits for the signings they made during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager of the club. It is important to recognise though that not all moves are going to work out.

One player who struggled to find his feet at Celtic after arriving in early 2022 is Yosuke Ideguchi. While Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, who joined the club in the same window, went on to become key players, the 27-year-old barely got on the pitch.

Ideguchi spent a season out on loan at Avispa Fukuoka and actually impressed there. And now, it looks like the J-League club are seeking a permanent deal.

Celtic in negotiations for midfielder's transfer exit

As reported by The Celtic Star, according to Japanese media, Avispa Fukuoka have started negotiations with the Scottish champions. They are aiming for a permanent deal for Ideguchi.

It remains to be seen if a permanent move ends up transpiring or not. It might make sense for all parties involved to be honest.

While Ideguchi did well at Avispa Fukuoka, there are question marks over whether that would earn him playing time back at Celtic. He does seem to be a better fit for the J-League than the Premiership.

The spell at Celtic was not Ideguchi's first in Europe either. He had been at Leeds United in the past but that also had not worked out for the Japanese midfielder.
