One major mistake that Celtic made in the January transfer window was not signing a left-back. There were suggestions from several outlets in the media that it was a priority position for the Hoops and yet, they did not strengthen there, even after Greg Taylor picked up an injury. It is a decision that has confused many.

With the transfer window now closed, the best that Celtic can do is look towards available free agents and make a move for one of them. And there might be a few good options available.

One name that Champions 67 have suggested is that of Marvin Plattenhardt. The German left-back is available as a free agent right now.

Plattenhardt spent almost a decade at Hertha BSC. The 32-year-old has been without a club since the summer though. With Celtic in need of a left-back, could he be the solution, at least for the short term?

Plattenhardt spent a long time playing at the Bundesliga level. He also represented the German national team on quite a few occasions. So, it is safe to say that he has top experience under his belt.

Someone like Plattenhardt could actually be a solid addition for Celtic, especially if brought in on a short-term deal. There is very little to lose for the Hoops and a lot to gain.

Even the season before he left Hertha BSC, the German was playing consistent football. So it is not like he has been warming the benches for a long time. For one reason or another, he just has not found a club since the summer.

Of course, all of this might be wishful thinking. There is a possibility that Celtic might be quite content with the options they have at left-back at the moment.
