Celtic must sign Chelsea player on loan in January
Celtic said goodbye to Matt O'Riley over the summer, arguably their best player. As his replacement, the club made multiple signings. The major one was Arne Engels. The Hoops shelled out a club-record transfer fee to bring him to Parkhead. Luke McCowan was brought in from Dundee FC. And while not a new face, Paulo Bernardo was signed permanently from Benfica after a successful loan spell last season.
Those are talented players without a doubt. But at the moment, they do not seem to have the output that O'Riley brought to the table.
O'Riley had almost 40 goal contributions last season. Can any of Celtic's current midfielders do that at the moment? The simple answer is no. So, it might not be a bad idea to add another option in the middle of the park in the winter.
One would think that Carney Chukwuemeka is someone who will be on the lookout for a change in scenery this winter. He has featured only once for Chelsea since Enzo Maresca was appointed as manager.

Chukwuemeka is a very talented player. And if he is available on loan come January, Celtic should definitely make the call.
Chukwuemeka is the type of talent who just needs a place where he will get a decent bit of football to show his quality. We have seen glimpses of it in the past at both Chelsea and Aston Villa.
He has scored a couple of goals for Chelsea so far in his career but is yet to show the goalscoring prowess from midfield that he had showed at the youth levels for Aston Villa. Of course, it is not easy to do when you rarely get gametime. All things considered, this would be a low-risk, high-reward move for Celtic.
