Celtic need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window. So far this season, the Hoops have never gotten out of second gear, as they look like a team out of ideas and uninspired in the majority of the games. That has led to them letting slip of a commanding lead over the Rangers in the Premiership title race. Philippe Clement's side are now even being considered the favourites, as they have all the momentum on their side.
The Hoops need to sort things out in the second half of the season. The last thing they need is to let their best players leave under these circumstances.
Matt O'Riley has been Celtic's best performer this season. The Danish international has taken his game to the next level under the management of Brendan Rodgers. That has seen him being linked with clubs like Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and more.
As reported by the Daily Record, O'Riley is aware of the interest but he is currently settled and happy to remain at Parkhead. The Celtic board are also more interested in strengthening their squad rather than parting ways with their best players. Big names will not be listened to if they do come calling for the midfielder.
Celtic make O'Riley transfer decision amid exit links
O'Riley staying at Celtic Park might be best for both parties involved. The club need their best player to stay if they are to turn things around in the second half of the season. On the other hand, the midfielder should take his time when deciding the next step in his career.
It was just recently that O'Riley signed a long-term extension with Celtic. So, the club should not be under any pressure to consider an exit in the middle of the season. And if or when he does leave, it is expected to be for a Scottish record transfer fee.
Let's see what the future holds for O'Riley. But it does look like he will continue on at Parkhead for the time being.
