Celtic make move for highly-rated Nigerian striker
Celtic have struggled in a lot of areas over the last few years, which is the reason why the Rangers have been able to catch up to them. Of course, a large part of the focus has been on the Hoops' struggles in the transfer market since the summer of 2022 and that is very understandable. The majority of the club's recent signings have failed to make an impact.
At the same time, one cannot overlook Celtic's inability to bring through their academy standouts into the senior team and give them proper chances. That is another area where the Rangers have unfortunately been better than them.
The positive news is that it looks like Celtic are looking to strengthen their youth ranks. And a highly-rated Nigerian striker, currently playing in the United States of America, is in their sights.
As reported by blueprint, Celtic have extended an invitation to Mezi Ikemba, urging him to partake in trials at the club’s training facilities. The Nigerian striker is hailed as a top player in San Antonio and has impressed on the youth soccer scene, showcasing his extraordinary prowess as an Elite Clubs National League under-15 player.

It would be safe to say that if Ikemba ends up at Celtic, he would very much be a player for the future. He is not someone who would be expected to make an impact in the first-team anytime soon.
There does seem to be a lot of hype surrounding Ikemba's potential though. And it is worth mentioning that a nunber of great strikers have come out of Nigeria in recent years.
Some names that come to mind immediately are Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ademola Lookman. If Ikemba turns out to be even half as good as them, Celtic should sign him.
