It will be interesting to see who Celtic end up signing this summer because they have been linked with a long list of players already. Of course, signing a goalkeeper has to be the club's top priority following the retirement of Joe Hart. But at the same time, they need to bring in reinforcemnts in a few other positions as well.

Centre-back has to be one of them. There are question marks around the futures of Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke. At the same time, Maik Nawrocki has not really impressed since his arrival last summer.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers dealing with injury problems throughout last season, Liam Scales was Celtic's most regular centre-back. But many believe that there needs to be some competition for that spot in the starting XI and the Irishman should not be an automatic starter.

Now, it looks like the club have their eyes on another Irish centre-back. As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic want to make a summer move for Burnley's Dara O’Shea. The club have made an approach to the Clarets but it would take a major transfer bid for them to even consider parting ways.

It is believed to have taken Burnley a transfer fee in the region of £7 million to have signed O'Shea. It is also unlikely that any decision on Celtic’s approach would be made until the English club appoint a new manager following the departure of Vincent Kompany.

It remain to be seen whether Celtic are able to sign O'Shea or not. He is 25 years of age, a full Republic of Ireland international and has Premier League experience.

Someone like O'Shea would be a solid addition for Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen whether their approach ends up leading anywhere.
