Celtic need to sign a long-term goalkeeper soon in order to replace Joe Hart as the number one between the posts. The Englishman has been a nailed-on starter for the Hoops since arriving in 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur. But he is no longer performing at his best level, is set to turn 37 years of age this April and his current deal runs out in the summer as well.

All things considered, Celtic should sign a goalkeeper soon. One of the players who they were interested in seems to be headed to Atletico Madrid instead.

Horatiu Moldovan is not a name that most fans would be familiar with. But it looks like the Romanian international was on the radar of many top clubs, including Celtic, but it is Atletico Madrid who have come out on top.

As reported by Agerpres, Moldovan recently had several transfer offers from clubs such as FC Basel, Ludogorets, Celtic, Betis and Atletico Madrid. He has a release clause in the contract with Rapid Bucuresti worth €800,000, which will be met by Diego Simeone's side.

While Moldovan is not a household name to the average football fan, he seems to be a very highly-rated goalkeeper considering the level of the clubs interested in his signature. It remains to be seen if he can make a meaningful impact at Atletico Madrid.

Having come through the youth ranks at CFR Cluj, Moldovan spent the early portion of his career going from one club to another. It is at Rapid Bucuresti that he has established himself as a top-class goalkeeper though.

Someone like Moldovan could have been a smart addition for Celtic even if he would not have been a high-profile signing. Let's see which goalkeeper the Hoops ultimately end up signing.
