Celtic made major mistake in the January transfer window
Celtic are clearly in a tough spot right now. They just can't get any momentum going. Hopes had been raised after the club's 7-1 win against Dundee FC. That result was followed by the Rangers losing after a long time, and it seemed that things were looking up for Brendan Rodgers' side once again. Unfortunately, that feeling did not last long.
Celtic went on to lose 2-0 to Hearts the very next day. As a result, they let slip of a golden opportunity to return to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
On the other hand, there is one Celtic player who is enjoying quite the run of form at the moment. Unfortunately, he is out on loan. That is none other than Mikey Johnston.
Johnston left the club in the winter in order to join West Bromwich Albion on loan. And he looks like a completely different player in the English Championship. The Republic of Ireland international has already scored four goals for them and the quality of his strikes has been excellent as well.
Celtic made major mistake in the January transfer window
It is quite clear that Celtic did not get the most out of Johnston this season. One can say that he is doing it in the English second division, but there is not much difference in quality between the Championship and the Scottish Premiership to be very honest.
One could argue that he is getting a lot more space to work with in England. In Scotland, teams often sit back against Celtic, which does not allow a player like Johnston to show his full creative prowess.
With all that being said, one also has to point out the fact that he never really got a run of games at Celtic this season. Even when he did well, he was in and out of the team. Perhaps, Rodgers should have relied on him a lot more than he did.
