Celtic look to sign Liverpool transfer target this summer
Celtic are expected to be on the lookout for a goalkeeper or two this summer. Joe Hart has already announced his decision to retire at the end of the campaign, meaning that the Hoops will be losing their number one between the posts for three seasons. On the other hand, there are question marks over Benjamin Siegrist's future at Parkhead as well, as he has barely featured since arriving in 2022.
Naturally, we have seen Celtic being linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent times. And now, it looks like a veteran is in their sights as well.
As reported by the Daily Mail (via Sky Sports), Southampton's Alex McCarthy is emerging as a summer option for Celtic. Liverpool and Newcastle United are also being linked with him.
McCarthy spent the majority of the season out of Southampton's first-team. But the 34-year-old goalkeeper has been starting over the last month, as the club look to make it back to the Premier League and are in the Championship playoffs.

McCarthy has had a bit of a journeyman career and has spent time at a number of clubs across England. Could he end up making a move up north in the near future? His current deal is believed to be running out in the summer.
It is hard to imagine that Celtic fans would be satisfied if McCarthy was brought in as Hart's replacement. Especially after they have been linked with more high-profile names and those who could have a long-term future at Parkhead.
Of course, McCarthy is a decent goalkeeper himself. He has a ton of Premier League experience and even won a cap for the England national team. But at this stage of his career, he might not be a solution for Celtic.
