Kasper Schmeichel was expected to be Celtic's first signing of the summer. The Denmark international number one is available as a free agent and many reliable sources have suggested that a deal is as good as done. But while the Hoops have signed a goalkeeper as their opening addition of this window, it is not the Leicester City legend.

Instead, they have signed Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa. The 22-year-old is a full Finland international and had impressed last season while on loan at Exeter City in League One.

As reported by Celtic's official website, they have signed Sinisalo from Aston Villa. The Finnish goalkeeper arrives on a five-year deal.

Sinisalo is expected to have a backup role at Celtic this season with Schmeichel replacing Joe Hart, who retired at the end of last season, between the posts. But the Finnish goalkeeper is believed to have been brought in with a long-term view in mind, which could eventually see him get the first-team gloves.

Sinisalo is the first signing of the summer. There have been reports in the media that the transfer fee required to sign him was around £1 million.

Considering the modern-day transfer market, that has to be considered a bargain fee for sure. The 22-year-old is an international-level goalkeeper and is only expected to improve over the coming years. He also looks set to get the chance to learn from someone like Schmeichel.

So, Celtic might have pulled off a bit of a masterstroke here. Of course, let's see how things turn out for Sinisalo in the long run. But at this point of time, there is a lot of positivity around the move for sure. Hopefully, he is just the first of many signings the Hoops end up making this summer.
