Celtic need to bring in some quality in January. While most fans would prefer the club to make permanent signings, it would be a mistake to completely overlook the loan market. There are players available, who could arrive on a temporary basis till the end of the season and help the Hoops get over the line in the Premiership title race.

The club had been linked with some high-profile names in the summer. One of them was Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek has struggled to get any consistent playing time at Manchester United for quite a while now and he was linked with a summer exit. As reported by 90min back in July, Celtic held an interest in signing him.

An exit did not materialise for Van de Beek in the summer. That has not led to any improvement in his situation though. And as well head towards the January transfer window, there are rumours about a move away from Old Trafford once again. Erik ten Hag does not sound against the idea either.

As reported by the Mirror, Ten Hag said about the situation of Van de Beek:

"I think Donny has to play. In games he was in the squad, so he had the opportunity.

"It was a slow start to the season because he was still recovering from physical setbacks. But he is back now and he is doing really well in training, so if you can’t give him perspective then I can see he has to play for his career and for everything."

On the other hand, Van de Beek said last week when asked about his lack of minutes:

"I need to start playing games very soon - if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious."

A loan move to Celtic could help Van de Beek get the regular playing time that he seems to be looking for. There is no doubt about the Dutch midfielder's quality. He showed that during his time at Ajax and was a regular Netherlands international not too long ago.

Unfortunately, things have not worked for him since joining Manchester United. Perhaps a move away from the Premier League could help him rediscover his form and get back to his best. Let's see if Celtic end up making a move or not after being linked with him in the summer.
