Celtic are yet to sign a player in the ongoing January transfer window although a move for Nicolas Kuhn seems as good as done and only the final details remain. Hopefully, further more additions will be made to Brendan Rodgers' squad over the next few weeks. Those hoping for high-profile signings might be left disappointed once again though.

Celtic have continued to be linked with players one would consider as 'project' signings rather than ones capable of coming in and making an immediate impact. Amidst all this, an interesting rumour has been floated.

A rumour doing the rounds online suggests that Celtic have made a direct enquiry to Jesse Lingard. They seem to be looking for an initial short-term deal with a review at the end of the season on an extension.

It remains to be seen how accurate that rumour turns out to be. For the moment, Lingard is without a club. His last spell was at Nottingham Forest, where he was not particularly impressive.

Celtic linked with high-profile move for Lingard

Lingard came through the youth ranks at Manchester United and spent the majority of his career there, making more than 200 appearances for them. He left Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 to join Nottingham Forrest.

It was not a successful move though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Lingard scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists in 20 appearances for Nottingham Forest.

On one hand, he is an experienced and proven player. At the top of his game, Lingard is fantastic. We saw that during his loan spell at West Ham United in the 2020/21 season, when he looked like one of the best in the Premier League.

The majority of his career has been marked by inconsistency though. Lingard would be a high-profile signing, but where does he fit into the squad?
