Celtic-linked goalkeeper reportedly agrees three-year deal
Celtic's search for Joe Hart's replacement this summer has seen them being linked with goalkeepers from all over Europe and beyond. The Englishman had spent three seasons as the club's number one between the posts and won seven trophies during that stint, including three league titles. So, it goes without saying that he leaves behind big gloves to fill.
A long list of goalkeepers appear to be on Celtic's radar this summer. That includes names like Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool, Altay Bayindir of Manchester United and several others.
One of the goalkeepers Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Etienne Vaessen. But unfortunately for the Hoops, it looks like the 28-year-old is headed elsewhere.
As reported by Brabants Dagblad (via HITC), Vaessen will leave RKC Waalwijk for newly promoted Eredivisie side FC Groningen when his contract expires. The goalkeeper has allegedly agreed a three-year deal with the option for a fourth.

So, it looks like Vaessen is another Celtic-linked goalkeeper who won't be heading for Glasgow this summer. It remains to be seen who the club ultimately end up signing.
While Vaessen is 28 years of age and had plenty of experience, not much of it was at the top level or under circumstances when he needed to win consistently. So, there were always doubts about whether someone like him would be the right fit at Parkhead.
The Celtic goalkeeper job is a unique one to say the least. There are many talented goalkeepers who end up struggling between the posts at Parkhead. Just ask Vasilis Barkas.
So, one can only hope that Celtic get their recruitment right this summer. They need to bring in someone who is capable of replacing Hart not only on the pitch but also as a leader of this team.
