Scott Brown's reputation as a manager is certainly on the rise. The Celtic legend had gotten into coaching before even retiring, as he had a player-coach role at Aberdeen. He would then take his first job in management with Fleetwood Town down in England and showed a lot of promising signs. But the English club failed to show the needed patience, deciding to part ways with the Scotsman, and they have been on a downward trajectory since then, even getting relegated.

On the other hand, Brown has enhanced his managerial reputation. He is in the middle of a solid run at Ayr United in the second division of Scottish football.

Of course, that is not the highest level by any means but Broony is excelling. Ayr United currently sit atop the Scottish Championship table, have not lost after the first seven league games and look like one of the favourites to go up alongside Falkirk.

Brown certainly seems to have impressed a lot of chiefs in the Premiership already. And recently, he was believed to be the frontrunner to take over at St Johnstone.

But it emerged that Brown had pulled out of the race to become St Johnstone manager after holding initial talks. Now, he has gone one step further.

As reported by STV News, Brown has signed a contract extension with Ayr United. He and his assistant, Steven Whittaker, have agreed to one-year extensions which commit them to the Somerset Park club until the summer of 2027.

That might very well be the best move for Broony right now. He is impressing at Ayr United and should see the job through. The Scottish Premiership is a managerial merry-go-round and not the best spot to develop as a coach.
