The managerial merry-go-round in the Scottish Premiership shows no signs of stopping. We are in September and two clubs have recently parted ways with their managers. Hearts have said goodbye to Steven Naismith while St Johnstone are without a manager as well. And in the case of the latter, it looks like a Celtic legend is in the frame for the job.

The likes of Neil Lennon and Damien Duff have been loosely linked with the Hearts job although the likes of Alex Neil and Derek McInnes look like favourites. On the other hand, it looks like Scott Brown is the frontrunner to fill the vacancy at St Johnstone.

Brown is the favourite to take over at the Premiership club and as reported by the Daily Mail (via Daily Record), he wants the chance to sit down with St Johnstone and discuss stepping up to the Scottish top division and replacing Craig Levein at McDiarmid Park. The Saints have approached Ayr United for permission to speak with the manager.

Brown is currently managing in the Scottish Championship. He has impressed as Ayr United boss and his team are atop the second division right now, having not lost any of their first seven league games so far.

The Ayr United job is Brown's second in management. Before that, he was the manager at Fleetwood and impressed there as well.

It will be interesting to see if Brown does make the step up to the Premiership. It does feel like he is ready to do it.

But at the same time, it will be a bit of a risk as well. Just look at the constant changes in managers in the Scottish top division right now. There is no guarantee he will get the time he needs at St Johnstone.
