Celtic will need to bring in a ton of reinforcements next summer as it has become quite clear this season that this squad is not good enough. One player who has done well in recent months is Joe Hart, who has stepped up to the plate on numerous occasions. The Englishman will be retiring from the game at the end of this season though and the Hoops need to find a new number one.
They do have two other goalkeepers. Scott Bain, whose contract runs out in the summer, and Benjamin Siegrist, who has been linked with an exit for many months now. So, neither is ready to be Celtic's next number one between the posts.
The club will hopefully make a statement signing next summer. And it does look like they have some major plans when it comes to reinforcing their ranks at goalkeeper.
As reported by HITC, Celtic want to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the summer. The club already know the direction they want to go in and are keen on securing the signature of the Republic of Ireland international.
Celtic keen to sign world-class goalkeeper next summer
Kelleher is a brilliant goalkeeper. He proved that once again with his fantastic performance in the League Cup final, keeping a clean sheet as Liverpool won against Chelsea over 120 minutes.
If Celtic are able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup for the club. But to be very honest, it is hard to see how they will be able to make it happen.
It is believed that Liverpool rejected a £15 million bid from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher in the recent winter transfer window. Will Celtic be willing to make an offer of that magnitude to sign the goalkeeper? And will he even be open to the idea of moving to the Scottish Premiership?
