Celtic won the Premiership and Scottish Cup double in Brendan Rodgers' first season back as manager. But there is clearly a need to improve upon that moving forward. Domestic success is a must. At the same time, the Hoops need to take a step forward in Europe as well, something that has been talked about for years but there has been no real movement.

For it to happen, Celtic will need to recruit players in the summer who are ready to perform in Europe straight off the bat. And it looks like one Manchester City player is on their as well as the Rangers' radar.

As reported by HITC, Celtic and Rangers are keen on Kalvin Phillips. The two Glasgow clubs would be interested in the English midfielder because they would not have to cover a large percentage of his wages were he to move this summer.

That is because it is believed that Manchester City would be willing to cover Phillips' wages. Everton, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Lyon, OGC Nice, Sevilla, Eintracht Frankfurt and several other teams are seemingly eyeing him.

Phillips joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 from Leeds United for a transfer fee believed to be close to £45 million. His time there so far has not been a successful one.

Philipps spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United but did not get a lot of playing time there either. As a result, it is hard to see him staying on at Manchester City next season. An exit, whether permanent or temporary, is likely.

Yet, it looks like there would not be any lack of interest in Phillips if the midfielder was to leave Manchester City. That would make the job of signing him pretty tough for Celtic.
