Celtic interested in towering Austrian centre-back
Celtic have not had a lot of luck with their signings in recent times. We saw the perfect example of that last summer. Carl Starfelt, who had been a regular starter during Ange Postecoglou's stint at Parkhead, left in order to join Celta Vigo. The Hoops needed to bring in a replacement and they signed two centre-backs in the form of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki.
Neither Lagerbielke nor Nawrocki have convinced since arriving in the summer. There are already question marks over their futures at Celtic.
Lagerbielke had looked to be on the verge of an exit this winter itself before Cameron Carter-Vickers picked up an injury. And with Nawrocki continuing to struggle with both form and fitness, it would not be a surprise if Celtic look to part ways in the summer.
On the other hand, it looks like the club are still sticking with their transfer policy of signing youngsters rather than trying to bring in some experience to the squad. And it looks like a 20-year-old Rapid Vienna centre-back is in their sights.
Celtic interested in towering Austrian centre-back
As reported by HITC, Celtic have watched Leopold Querfeld in action. As have clubs like Rangers, Fulham, Burnley, Wolves and Leicester City. Crystal Palace are believed to be paying close attention to the centre-back as well.
Querfeld is 20 years of age and stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall. He has come through the ranks at Rapid Vienna and made his mark at the senior level.
Celtic have recently signed a player from Rapid Vienna in the form of Nicolas Kuhn. While the winger was enjoying a great season in Austria, he seems to have found things tougher in Scotland and is yet to impress since his arrival in the January transfer window. These are still early days though and he needs to be given time to adjust and settle down.
