There are a number of positions where Celtic could do with some strengthening. Most people would not view midfield as one of those areas though. Matt O'Riley and Callum McGregor are pretty much automatic selections at this point while Reo Hatate recently returned to fitness as well although he is already away for the AFC Asian Cup. Paulo Bernardo is someone who has shown a lot of quality in recent weeks as well.
Tomoki Iwata and David Turnbull have featured at times through the course of the campaign as well. And while Odin Thiago Holm has not played much, he is viewed as a very talented player who could make a difference in the future.
Yet, it looks like Celtic are looking to add another midfielder to their ranks. And talks seem to have even taken place.
As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have held talks with FC Gwangju midfielder Jung Ho-yeon. There is a good chance that a move could progress before the end of the window.
Celtic hold talks with midfielder as move could happen
Celtic have been linked with Jung for quite some time now. And with the number of players they have signed from the K-League in recent times, it would not be a surprise if we saw the midfielder donning the green-and-white jersey soon.
Of course, Celtic's recent recruitment record will not fill the fans with confidence. Oh Hyeon-gyu has shown flashes of quality but is not ready to challenge for a starting spot yet. The same can be said about Yang Hyun-jun. And Kwon Hyeok-kyu did not make a single appearance in the first half of the campaign, before leaving on loan to St Mirren this month.
Let's see if Celtic end up signing Jung or not. But with the amount of speculation around the move, there has to be something to it.
