Why Celtic hero Scott Brown has rejected chance to manage St Johnstone
Scott Brown has shown plenty of promise in his early years in management and some fans even believe that he could eventually become a Celtic manager. Of course, even if that did turn out to be the case, that day seems far away. Broony is currently managing in the Championship with Ayr United, and doing a fine job at it, may we add.
His Aur United side sit atop the Championship table. They have not lost any of their first seven league games so far this season.
It is not hard to see why that kind of performance has drawn the attention of Premiership clubs. And with St Johnstone looking for a manager, Brown was believed to be one of the frontrunners.
Since then, it has emerged that Brown has decided to pull out of the race to become the next St Johnstone manager. And there's now some clarity on the reason behind that decision.
Why Celtic hero Scott Brown has rejected chance to manage St Johnstone
As reported by the Daily Record, Ayr United had reluctantly granted permission for St Johnstone to open discussions with Brown. But Broony has turned them down after learning that the club's American owners also hope to hold similar talks with at least two alternative candidates.
So, while Brown did showcase interest in stepping up to the Premiership, it looks like he has decided to remain put at Ayr United for the time being. And to be honest, that might not be a bad idea.
The Scottish Premiership is not the easiest place to be a manager right now. It feels like a never-ending merry-go-round. We are in September and two clubs are already searching for a new head coach. Broony is doing a great job at Ayr United and it might be the right spot for him to continue his development.
