Jurgen Klopp shook up the football world this week by announcing that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. The German had taken the Merseyside club back to the top of the game, after struggling to compete with the best and no league title in three decades. It goes without saying that he will leave big shoes to fill. Could a former Celtic manager end up in the Anfield hot seat?

Celtic fans were left disappointed when Ange Postecoglou left in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, after winning five trophies in his two seasons at Parkhead. In England, the Australian has established himself as one of the best managers in the game though.

Naturally, he is someone who has immediately been linked with the Liverpool job as news broke that Klopp would be leaving. It is worth pointing out that Postecoglou is a boyhood fan of the club.

As reported by The Athletic, Xabi Alonso is regarded as the frontrunner to succeed Klopp. Roberto De Zerbi and Postecoglou are also on the radar. Thomas Frank and Julian Nagelsmann may also be of interest.

If Postecoglou does end up becoming Liverpool manager, it would be a fairytale run for the Australian. Many might even view it as his destiny.

Less than three years back, it looked like he might never even get a chance in Europe. But when Celtic's move for Eddie Howe failed to materialise, the club went for Postecoglou, who was a relative unknown at that point and the apponitment was met with a lot of questions.

Today, he is being considered as a candidate to replace one of Liverpool's greatest ever managers. It would be safe to say that Postecoglou has been on some journey since the call from Parkhead.
