For more than a decade, Celtic have been the best team in Scotland and by some distance. During that period of time, the Rangers have managed to win the league on just one occasion while the Hoops have lifted the trophy eleven times. It would be safe to say that that is quite the run that the Green-and-white side of Glasgow have been on.

Scott Brown has been one of the faces of this era for Celtic. He left the club in 2021 for Aberdeen and has moved into management since then, and is currently the boss of Scottish Championship club Ayr United.

Ayr United have shown signs of improvement since Brown was appointed as manager. They have a tough test coming up though, as they will be facing the Rangers in the Scottish Cup 5th round.

Of course, Brown was a constant thorn in the path of the Rangers during his playing days. He was the type of player who seemed to come alive during Glasgow derbies and seemed to genuinely enjoy the occasion. As a result, some of his recent comments are interesting.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Brown said in his pre-match press conference:

"I’ve got a lot of love for Rangers.

".... but as I say it was all in the past."

It was difficult from Brown's tone or delivery whether he was being serious or joking. It could have been either of the two or a mixture of both.

Celtic fans will be hoping that Ayr United are able to pull off a Scottish Cup upset when they take on the Rangers. Brendan Rodgers' side have a much tougher test ahead of them in the 5th round as they will be taking on St Mirren away from home.

Having seen the Rangers lift the Scottish League Cup earlier in the season, this competition has now become even more important for Celtic. They need to find a way to retain their crown.
