Celtic guaranteed £18 million windfall this season
When it rains, it pours and it is pouring good news at Celtic Park right now. The club are coming off a comfortable 3-0 win over the Rangers at the weekend. The result has already sent them five points clear of their main title rivals. And considering how things are going at the moment, it is hard to imagine the Hoops ending the campaign without a fourth-straight Premiership crown.
On the other hand, Celtic managed to land a pretty good set of fixtures in the Champions League as well. Of course, there are no easy games at that level. But even then, it feels like there are a number of winnable ones for Brendan Rodgers' side in the new-look format.
Celtic will taking on Slovan Bratislava, Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta, RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, BSC Young Boys and Aston Villa. As far as the Champions League goes, that is a pretty decent draw.
Also, being in the competition means that they are set to be on the receiving end of a pretty hefty windfall, significantly larger than the Rangers who will be playing Europa League football. As reported by Football Insider, Keith Wyness said:
"Rangers will probably be getting about £4million from the Europa League.
“Compared to that, Celtic will already have about £18million guaranteed.
“They are getting more than four times the number roughly is what we are talking about."
Celtic guaranteed £18 million windfall this season
So, Celtic look set to receive a lot more money from Europe this season than the Rangers. Add to that the financial gulf that exists between the two clubs already and it is hard to imagine how the Ibrox club are able to bridge that anytime soon.
Of course, a simple solution would be getting their recruitment right. But they have not been able to do that for some time now, which has allowed the Hoops to race ahead, despite being average when it comes to idenitfying players themselves.
Let's see how this season plays out. But at the moment, Celtic are looking like heavy favourites over the Rangers. To put it mildly.
