Liel Abada has completed his Celtic exit, joining MLS side Charlotte FC in a deal believed to be around £10 million. The winger had been an important part of the team and even signed a four-year contract extension in September. But the circumstances meant that an exit was probably the best step for all parties involved.

Celtic might have a tough task on their hands, replacing Abada though. The winger did not play much this season and the club have certainly missed his output. He did have 48 goal contributions over the past two seasons.

Yang Hyun-jun was doing well in recent weeks but ended up being sent off against Hearts, showing that he still has a lot to learn at this level. Nicolas Kuhn was signed in January but has failed to impress since then.

So, Celtic could do with an experienced winger at the moment, even if on a short-term deal. And one fitting that profile might be available as a free agent.

Helder Costa has been without a club since October of last year. He left Leeds United by mutual consent.

Costa has some decent pedigree though. He has played in the Premier League for Leeds United and Wolves, in La Liga for Valencia and Deportivo de La Coruna, in Ligue 1 for AS Monaco and it was at Benfica that he started his career.

Costa even made an appearance for the Portugal national team and scored, incidentally against Scotland. Since 2021, he has been representing Angola at the international level.

Of course, there would be question marks around signing Costa as well. He has not played competitive football for months. Would he be able to come in at Celtic and gain match fitness before the season comes to an end?

Celtic might not have much to lose if they do sign Costa on a deal until the end of the season with an option to extend it. At 30 years of age, he should have plenty of football left in the tank.
