Brendan Rodgers has some major problems to solve right now. The win over Feyenoord did not prove to be the boost that most fans had been hoping for. Instead, Celtic took several steps back in the very next game, losing 2-0 at the hands of Hearts at Parkhead. The result means that they have lost the mathematical advantage they had over the Rangers in the points table.

That is almost unbelievable considering where the Rangers were a couple of months back. 7 points behind Celtic in the title race and they had parted ways with Michael Beale.

This was being viewed as a cruise to the league trophy by most fans. Instead, it has not only turned into a title race but one in which the Hoops seem to have no momentum and seem the more likely team to lose out.

Celtic fans were not particularly happy with some of Rodgers' comments after the defeat at the hands of Hearts either. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"Not (surprised) if I'm honest... I've seen it within the team from time to time, I'm surprised at home we produced that level of the performance, but not so when I see the first half at St Johnstone and then having to activate that at half time. Then Kilmarnock away and today. It disappoints me greatly because we haven't shown the necessary determination and the passive nature was a concern."

Now, there is nothing inaccurate about Rodgers' comments. This Celtic team have been struggling for a while and this result would not have come as a surprise to most, although surely a disappointment nonetheless.

But then, it is Rodgers' job to get the team back on track when things are not going their way and to find solutions to problems as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, he has not been able to do that in recent games.

The January transfer window is now being viewed as the big hope for Celtic. A chance to refresh the squad and bring some quality players in. Hopefully, that will turn out to be the case. Otherwise, Rodgers and the club would be in a problem there might not be a solution to.
