Celtic could do with some strengthening in several positions across the pitch. One of them might prove to be centre-back, depending on departures. Nat Phillips has returned to Liverpool after a disappointing half-season loan spell at Parkhead. The futures of Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke are uncertain as well.

Ultimately, Celtic might be left with four centre-backs in the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki. Tomoki Iwata can play there as well and did so very successfully in Japan.

Carter-Vickers is Celtic's best centre-back. But he has struggled to remain fit for any consistent length of time this season. On the other hand, Scales has established himself as a starter as well but he is a player that has divided opinion.

Many fans believe that Scales has been one of Celtic's standout performers this season. Others have not been as impressed and feel he is not as good as Carl Starfelt, who left in the summer.

Celtic make enquiry about Juventus-linked defender

Amid all this, rumours doing the rounds online suggest that Celtic have made an enquiry about Lloyd Kelly. The Bournemouth defender's current deal runs out next summer.

Someone like Kelly would be a fantastic addition for Celtic. The 25-year-old centre-back has proven himself in the Premier League.

Of course, he is not the type of player that you would expect Celtic to even consider shelling out a transfer fee for. But the fact the he looks set to become a free agent in the summer does open up a window of opportunity.

Kelly moving to Celtic would be a surprise though. Especially since he is being linked with clubs like Juventus and AC Milan at the moment.

So, do not expect Kelly to join Celtic. He is much more likely to end up in Serie A or the Bundesliga next summer, if he does end up leaving Bournemouth.
