Celtic make unexpected double announcement before Glasgow Derby
All of the focus is on the upcoming meeting between Celtic and the Rangers at Parkhead this weekend. This is the most important Glasgow Derby in a long time and is expected to have major implications on the Premiership title race. With just three games to go in the league campaign, the Hoops hold a three-point lead over the Ibrox club.
So, a win would be an absolutely fantastic result for Celtic this weekend. Even a draw would have to be viewed as a positive although that should never be the aim going into the match.
There is further good news for Celtic heading into the game though. Two players have put pen to paper on contract extensions.
As reported by Celtic on their official website, Adam Montgomery and Joey Dawson have both signed new deals with the club. Both are one-year extensions to their current deals.

That means that Montgomery's deal will now run until June 2027. On the other hand, Dawson's contract runs until June 2025.
Montgomery managed to get into the first team during Ange Postecoglou's first season at Parkhead. Back then, Celtic were dealing with a lack of options and it allowed the youngster to get a decent bit of playing time.
Since then he has spent time out on loan at a number of different clubs and has had to deal with injury problems as well. Recent rumours had suggested that Celtic were ready to part ways with Montgomery, so the announcement of a contract extension was certainly unexpected.
On the other hand, Dawson was enjoying a tremendous 2022/23 campaign with the B Team before suffering a long-term injury. It does look like the Hoops still have hopes for him and understandably so, considering the potential he had been showing.
