Celtic fans will be delighted with Ange Postecoglou's classy comments
Ange Postecoglou established himself as one of the most beloved managers in Celtic history during his two years at Parkhead. And it was not just because of the results, the silverware or the style of football. A lot of it was down to how the Australian carried himself and his view of the game. It was refreshing to hear from him in an era when uniqueness is fading away from the sport.
Postecoglou brought a unique perspective, thanks to his own distinctive journey in the game. He had started out managing in 1996 and won silverware pretty much everywhere he had been and yet, it was in 2021 that he finally got a proper chance in Europe. That too was a result of Eddie Howe's move to Celtic collapsing.
Postecoglou did leave Celtic last summer to join Tottenham Hotspur. Even though the exit disappointed the fans, there is still a lot of love and respect for him.
He continues to show why down in England. His recent comments about global fans of clubs being called 'plastic' prove Postecoglou's class. As reported by GOAL, the Tottenham Hotspur manager said:
"See, that's really harsh. I'll tell you why, because I'm probably plastic and touristy because I am coming from the other side of the world and am really passionate about football.
"If I could get access to see a Premier League game, that was the world to me. To label people 'plastic' or 'tourists', I don't think that's very fair. Just because they live on the other side of the world.
"This football club has supporters all over the world that don't always get access to the games and I think we should always have the ability to accommodate them. It doesn't make them any less passionate. I think it's really disrespectful to call fans [plastic], who are willing to go to the expense of coming half way around the world, you don't know how passionate they are."

That is absolutely spot-on from Postecoglou. Football is a global sport today and clubs have fans all over the planet.
That is one of the major reasons why the revenue of football clubs has increased so significantly over the previous few decades. And fans, no matter where they are from, deserve equal respect.
Of course, being from Australia, Postecoglou has a pretty clear view on the matter and knows what it feels like to follow clubs from the other side of the world. It is no secret that he grew up supporting Liverpool and with posters of Kenny Dalglish on his walls.
