Celtic make contact over deal for fantastic defender
It looks like Celtic have already started preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window, as you would expect, especially for a team that has failed to meet expectations. The Hoops appear to lack required quality in a number of positions. Centre-back has to be considered amongst them. They lost significant experience there with Carl Starfelt leaving for Celta Vigo and decided to replace him with Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki.
It feels like the hope was that at least one of those players would come good for Celtic. Unfortunately, there have been no such signs.
Neither Lagerbielke nor Nawrocki has featured much. On the contrary, they have often found themselves not even in the matchday squad. Thus, a loan exit or a permanent move in the summer would make sense for them.
On the other hand, Celtic need to sign another centre-back to challenge Liam Scales for a place in the starting XI. Even more so if Cameron Carter-Vickers' fitness issues continue. And it looks like a former England youth international is on their radar.
Celtic make contact over deal for fantastic defender
As reported by Football Scotland, the recruitment staff have made tentative contact over Jake Clarke-Salter. They wanted to sound out the key information such as fee, desire and expectations.
For many years, Clarke-Salter was one of the brightest prospects at Chelsea. But like so many others, he never ended up getting his big breakthrough at Stamford Bridge.
He made only a few appearances for Chelsea and spent most of his senior career out on a variety of loan spells before leaving the club permanently in 2022 for QPR. At Loftus Road, Clarke-Salter is enjoying a fantastic season right now and is being considered one of the best defenders in the Championship, which has drawn the interest of not just Celtic butb several Premier League clubs as well.
